How to see what your competitors sell the most

Paste any Shopify store URL and this tool lists the 100 products that store ranks as best sellers, so you can see which products, prices, and variants work for a competitor. The answers below explain how to read the list and what to do with it.

What does the best-seller tool show?

For any Shopify store, the tool returns up to 100 products that are available for sale, in Shopify's best-selling order. Each card shows the rank, image, price, compare-at price, options such as size or color, and publish date.

The tool is free and works with any store on Shopify, including stores that use their own domain.

How do I see a competitor's best-selling products on Shopify?

  1. Copy the store's web address, for example allbirds.com. Any page of the store works.
  2. Paste it into the Store URL field and press “Show best sellers”.
  3. Read the ranked list from #1 down. Turn on “Group by category” to see which product types lead.
  4. Press “View product” on any card to open it on the store and study its page and offer.

How do I read a competitor's best-seller list?

Look for patterns across the whole list instead of judging one product.

  • Price bands. If most top products sit in a narrow price range, that range is where the store's customers buy.
  • Compare-at prices. A struck-through price means the product is sold at a discount. Best sellers that rarely show one may point to demand at full price.
  • Options. The sizes, colors, and bundles on top products show which variants the store invests in.
  • Publish date. A product published recently that already ranks near the top deserves a closer look.
  • Categories. Grouping by category shows whether the best sellers concentrate in one product type or spread across the catalog.

Where does the data come from, and how accurate is it?

The list comes from the public catalog API that Shopify exposes for every store, queried with Shopify's best-selling sort. The tool needs no access to the store's admin.

The list is a ranking. It does not include units sold, revenue, or conversion rate, and Shopify decides how its best-selling order is calculated.

Only products currently available for sale appear, so a sold-out best seller is left out. Results are cached, so a store's list can be up to seven days old.

If the URL is not a Shopify store or its catalog cannot be read, the tool tells you instead of showing a partial list.

What should I do with a competitor's best sellers?

  • Find catalog gaps. Note the product types, price points, and variants that lead for them and that you do not offer.
  • Check your own exposure. If they win with products you also sell, look at where those products sit in your collections and how much ad spend they get.
  • Study discount habits. See how often their top products carry a compare-at price before you plan your own promotions.

A competitor's ranking shows what sells for them. Your own store data shows what to do about it. Skymetrics Product Analytics tracks conversion rate, revenue, and traffic per product in your Shopify store, and the Skymetrics AI Agents include a Competitor Radar agent.
